AJAX: Asynchronous Javascript and XML
XML: Extensible Markup Language
It is a tool that creates Javascript client stubs and PHP server stubs from an “.arpc” file for RPC’s (Remote Procedure Calls). The “.arpc” file contains all the data types (data structures) and remote procedure prototypes that you want for your web-app. Once you have created the “.arpc” file, you “compile” it with “arpcgen” (program/script) to create the required stubs (client/Javascript, server/PHP).
The XML-RPC standard is used for communications between the client and server. This is why I called the tool “arpc”, the “X” from “AJAX” represents the “XML” in “XML-RPC”.
Note: RPC calls from the client (Javascript) are asynchronous (the code that calls the stub is not blocked after the request is sent), this is a feature AJAX provides, this is an advantageous for longer requests.
